This is important (work in progress)
This little art project was inspired by the “Programmed” exhibit at the Whitney Museum, and it combines my interests in abstract art, mathematics, and computing. Each work is about a concept that is personally important to me and consists of a word or words that are translated into binary code which represents everything in terms of “0” and “1”. All images were created in Python using the PIL library.
I love you
I believe “I love you” is one of the most important phrases in any language.
The rows represent each letter with colored squares representing “1”.
Birth/Death
The squares on the left spell “Birth” and on the right “Death”. The thin line at the bottom represents the timeline of our lives. The alternating black/white theme throughout the image represents the constantly changing nature of life. The big white line that turns into the white right half of the image represents the unchanging spiritual dimension into which we eventually leave.
Pride
The columns spell the word “PRIDE” in the colors of the Pride Flag. I have a lot of friends in the LGBT community, and this was my little token of appreciation and support.
Woman
The big block in the center represents the word “Woman”, and I believe that out of all the words that could describe any woman, the words “Love” and “Strength” are the most prominent ones, and they are on the left and right respectively.
Pause, don’t do anything
Sometimes, our instinctive behavior can be very swift but also very destructive. This phrase, “Pause, don’t do anything”, has helped me take a step back and think before taking any action. The word “Pause” is spelled row by row, and the empty space after it signifies the “don’t do anything” part that lets us process things before we decide what to do.
